26.2

It started off SO GREAT! (not the marathon, the trip to Utah.) My brother and sister in law
picked us up from the airport Wed. night. We got to their house and took our things up to "our" bedroom and there was this basket!

It was FULL of "marathon stuff!" It was SO cute and FUN! It got the party started in the right wasy! So, my sister in law, Camie, she is an amazing runner and she is "preparing" me the next 48 hours to be ready for this marathon! She is feed ing me all the right things at all the right times and NOT LETTING UP on the WATER and rest!
Our good friends Mike and Gina Johnson moved from West Linn to Salt Lake. Their family has a "Cottage" in Providence,Ut. They met us there and we stayed there Fri. night. It was PERFECT and SUPER fun! Sat. morning I was feeling good and READY to do this marathon! (Despite the cact of getting up at 4:45 am to run 26.2 miles!)
By the time our bus got to the start5 line there was a mile long line at EACH port-a-potty! While Jason and I were standing in line, it comes over the loud speaker that the race starts in 7 minutes! We just ran to the start line and 30 seconds later the fun went off and so did we.....
It was perfect running weather! Besides Jason's I T band slipping off( he'd greased down his letg with some numbing medicine) and it make the I T band not stay in place! AND some WEIRD thing in my shorts kept poking me! It was like fishing line where the reflective stip was! I was bleeding from it already by mile3! Other than thos oddities, we were doing fine.
Mile 6. I'm happy to have a 10k done and less than an hour gone by.
Mile 10. I'm happy to be in double digits AND ONLY 3 miles to be 1/2 way done!
Mile 13. 1/2 way done!!! BUT, i'm telling Jason, "my hip hurts!" One more mile until we see Brian! We are on a 4 hr.15 min. harathon pace.
Mile 14. I see Brian and ask if he has water! I am SO thirsty! We have been drinking water at ever station, but, obviously, not enough. I also tell him, "my hip is hurting!"
Mile 15. 3 cups of water! I stretch my hip. It helps.
Mile 16. I tell Jason, I'm going to have to stretch my hip again! Just go ahead! He stays.
Mile 18. I HAVE to stretch my hip AGAIN! It's NOT working right! Jason goes ahead. I'm glad to not hold him back. We are still on a 4 hr. 15 min marathon pace. I walk/run/hop the next 2 miles and the tears start..... AM I going to be able to finish this???

(maybe if I run with my eyes closed it will be easier?)
Mile 20. I see Brian! He talks to me as he runs with me for a block or two. I tell him, I'm not going to be able to finish this! After seeing him, I'm ready to try again! I run until I feel like I' going to fall because my hip won't hold me up anymore! I FORCE myself not to cry. I don't want to waste the energy!
Mile 21. Can I REALLY keep this up for FIVE MORE MILES?!?! I am in SO MUCH PAIN I can't comprehend going ONE more mile!
Mile 23. A man notices me and says to tke salt pill and advil. I've had six advil already. He gives me 2 more and 2 salt pills. I pray this will help get me 3 more miles!
Mile 24. I have hope. 2 more miles. It is slow and painful. I am mad at my body and yet gratful for it at the same time! I am MAD I've put myself through another marathon and yet happy at the same time. I am scared I might not finish and yet determined to get to the finish line if I have to crawl! I think I'm running. I am actually passing some people. The blocks are slowly going by.
Mile 26.2 I cross the finish line! I am SOBBING!! I can't believe I actually am at the FINISH LINE! ON MY OWN! I've pushed myself harder than I've ever pushed myself physically. (Like 26.2 miles isn't pushing enough.) 4 hrs. 58 min. I am SOOO dissappointed and yet SO happy!

(notice the runner in front of me.)

26.2 miles! I'll NEVER do that again!......... until, maybe next year!

OUCH!

can someone please get me to a Dr.?
Side note: I went to a chiropractor that night. I couldn't even walk! He pushed around on my hip for about 3 minutes and I walked out of there like I was ready to take on those last 8 miles!

How can you tell you're a Baird? When you start crying at the very beginning when Cami has that fun basket waiting. It's only down hill from that point. WAY TO GO!! You're AWESOME!

What a neat way to shar your story. Thanks for sharing and for your example to not quit. What an awesome job. How great it is to have family and friends support you along along the way. Daren and Camie with the fun basket of goodies and Brian there throughout the race. That's the best!
